Distinctive Unit Insignia


Description/Blazon
A Gold color metal and enamel device, 1 3/16 inches (3.02 cm) in height overall blazoned:  Celeste (Oriental Blue), on a pile reversed, between four mullets pilewise an eagle's head erased Or; a chief embattled Sable, overall a polestar Argent in honor point.  Attached below the shield a Black scroll inscribed "MIGHT THROUGH VIGILANCE" in Gold.

Symbolism
Oriental blue and silver gray are the colors traditionally used by Military Intelligence units.  The embattlement alludes to the unit's historically secure fighting position, to observe and defend against all enemies.  The stars signify the battalion's worldwide capability, to meet their intelligence mission.  The pile reversed, blue background and the stars allude to day and night operations.  The polestar symbolizes direction and the battalion's duty to provide support to the "Four Corners" of the world.  The golden eagle, the National symbol, represents vigilance, strength and military readiness.

Background
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 26 March 2002.
**NOTE:  This unit is a TDA Battalion and was authorized a DUI in accordance with paragraph 27-21(19) of AR 670-1.
